近年以科学家形象成为科幻红星的杰夫．戈德布拉姆，在变蝇人的年代却经常演出笨拙和怪僻的角色，本片是其中表演精彩的一部代表作。他在片中饰演一名前往伦敦演出舞台剧的二流美国演员狄克森，因为个子高而经常被讨厌的主角取笑。他在医院求治花粉过敏症时认识了女护士凯，但后来却因传出他与剧中女演的绯闻而情海生波。经狄克森契而不舍追求后终于挽回佳人芳心。 本片导演梅尔．史密斯及主要剧作班底都是英国电视喜剧节目的老手，成功地拍出了一种世故的讽刺喜剧味道。演护士的埃玛．汤普森首次从舞台转战银幕，表现不俗。
