影片讲述的是生活在意大利托斯坎那海边一对中年夫妇和他们儿子(NIC)和他的女朋友(MARIE)的生活如何因一个假期而改变。NIC的父亲一心想挽回他的妻子Adriana （Alessia Barela饰）的爱，而他的妻子则已拿定主意远离现在的生活。 根据Rolando Colla，这是一部关于暴力与绝望，谎言怨恨，孤单与寂寞的电影，对生活不抱期望，但常常在彼此的爱慕中寻得希望。故事是早就有角本的，只是地点未定，后来导演看了捷克摄影师 Jan Jedlicka的照片，就把故事定点在托斯堪那的海边，那里，海天相接，有些树木连根拔起，这里的一切都好像是游离在时间之外。但许多景观，比如大片松树上温柔软的松针，骑自行车的人，沙丘和玉米田，与海边大片的沼泽地浅水地相互映照，这种流动的光影与这些古老的沉静小镇之间有着千差万别，而希望就在其中。
