主角惠克曼博士为了创造出天下无敌的战士而进行秘密的再生人计划，他谋杀了八十八个人，将他们的皮肤和器官统缝在一起，造出只会听他的话而不会独立思考的再生人威尔．惠顿。然而，威尔常在午夜被一些谋杀梦魇纠缠，原来就是那八十八个人生前的最后记忆。逐渐，威尔有了自己的情感和渴望，不再听命于博士的控制。编导罗杰．艾维不以血腥暴力的方式来营造故事的恐怖气氛，反而以强烈的视觉效果和略带卡通化的角色塑造来创造类型特色，有一定的可观性。
