舉世聞名的日本建築大師安藤忠雄，打破了許多建築界既定的規則。在以多項作品揚名國際後，安藤忠雄受倍樂生基金會之邀，在直島設計一個當代藝術中心。他在當地設計了一系列獨樹一格的博物館建築，原本荒蕪的小島搖身一變，日本瀨戶內海的直島成了世界上首屈一指的藝術勝地，更被英國旅遊雜誌《Traveler》選為「世界上最值得旅遊的七個文化名勝」。
As one of the world's most respected architects, Tadao Ando has defied many stereotypes in the field. From small houses that explored radical viewpoints to iconic major museums and public projects, he left a mark in many places, influencing an entire generation of architects worldwide. After making a name for himself with a variety of projects, Ando was invited by the Benesse foundation to deisgn a contemporary arts center on the island of Naoshima, Japan.
