希区柯克曾两次执导《擒凶记》故事，本片是在三十年代于英国拍摄的黑白片版本。描述一个英国家庭到瑞士度假，从一名垂死的间谍口中知悉一位驻伦敦的外交官将在他出席音乐会时被人暗杀。为了让这对夫妇守口如瓶，暗杀者绑架了他们的女儿作为人质，然而他俩还是去了音乐所。全片混合了间谍片、警匪片、喜剧片等多元化的素材，拍成一部内容丰富剧力强烈的作品，并且微妙地反映了当年一触即发的欧洲政治局势。

Plot Summary:While holidaying in Switzerland, Lawrence and his wife Jill are asked by a dying friend, Louis Bernard, to get information hidden in his room to the British Consulate. They get the information, but when they deny having it, their daughter Betty is kidnapped. It turns out that Louis was a Foreign Office spy and the information has to do with the assassination of a foreign dignitary. Having managed to trace his daughter's kidnappers back to London, Lawrence learns that the assassination will take place during a concert at the Albert Hall. It is left to Jill, however, to stop the assassination.
