Holk, an unemployed mans wife is taken ill. He must find food for her. He goes out poaching on the manors hunting grounds, succeeds in shooting a grouse, but the shot is heard by the forester. During his flight Holk is caught by the forester. During their fight Holk's rifle accidentally goes off and kills the forester.
